Carving pumpkins for Halloween is a part of many family traditions.  Although pretty at night when lit from within, a carved pumpkin can look pretty tired and withered in a short amount of time.  If you have young children, carving is left up to Mom or Dad with the children looking on.

Quick, Ugly Wallpaper Solution! http://www.brighterworldpainting.com/wordpress/?p=252 http://www.brighterworldpainting.com/wordpress/?p=252#comments Sun, 19 Sep 2010 14:31:44 +0000 Brighter World Painting http://www.brighterworldpainting.com/wordpress/?p=252 Ideally, wallpaper should be removed before painting a wall.  Sometimes, however, especially if the wall was not prepared properly before applying the wallpaper, removing it will cause some serious damage to the wall.   In order to avoid the time and cost of extensive repairs… you can skip the long, dirty, aggravating process of stripping off the wallpaper… and just paint over it!

If you’re determined to shortcut to a ‘painted wall’ by painting over the wallpaper…

Here’s how you do it!

************************************************************************************************************

  1. Remove any loose wallpaper… be particularly careful with the seams.
  2. Using ‘wallpaper seam glue,’ glue down any loose edges that remain.
  3. Making sure that your room is well ventilated, apply a coat of either a fast dry shellac or an alcohol-based primer with a ’smooth wall’ roller.
  4. Using a wider drywall knife, apply drywall mud on all the wallpaper seams and also over any flaws in the paper and let it thoroughly dry.
  5. Sand until smooth ( a sanding sponge will be your best tool for this!) and then apply your primer over the dry walled spots.  You may need to repeat this process on any stubborn areas.
  6. Using a Poly-Vinyl-Acetate or PVA primer, seal the wall before applying paint.
  7. Apply 2 coats of a high quality paint.  A ‘flat’ paint will be your best choice because it will disguise any flaws in your wall better than a gloss paint which should be used on finer surfaces.
  8. Pat yourself on the back… and enjoy the new ‘look’ of your room!
